Jungnang-gu Expands Childbirth Support for All Families with Disabilities

Provision of 500,000 KRW Childbirth Support Fund for Male Disabled Individuals with Mild Disabilities, Expansion of Childbirth Support to All Disabled Families

Jungnang-gu Expands Childbirth Support for All Families with Disabilities

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is promoting the "Childbirth Support Fund Project for Disabled Families" starting this year to address social issues in the low birthrate era and to alleviate the economic burden caused by childbirth in families with disabled members.

Until now, childbirth expenses were supported only in cases of childbirth by "women with disabilities" and children born to families of "men with severe disabilities (previously grades 1-3)" through national and city funding projects, while families of "men with less severe disabilities (previously grades 4-6)" received no support benefits.

Based on the "Seoul Special City Jungnang-gu Disabled Family Childbirth Support Fund Ordinance," which has been in effect since January this year, the district will provide a childbirth support fund of 500,000 KRW to families of "men with less severe disabilities" who previously did not receive support, thereby enabling any disabled family to receive childbirth support.

The childbirth support fund applies to newborns born on or after January 1, 2020, in families of "men with less severe disabilities." However, the family must have resided in Jungnang-gu for at least one year as of the birth date. If the residency period requirement is not met, application is possible within one year after fulfilling the residency period.

The district has been providing childbirth congratulatory money as follows: 100,000 KRW for the first child, 500,000 KRW for the second, 1,000,000 KRW for the third, and 2,000,000 KRW for the fourth and subsequent children.

Additionally, childbirth cost support of 1,000,000 KRW each is provided to women with disabilities and men with severe disabilities, and now 500,000 KRW is also provided to men with less severe disabilities, ensuring comprehensive childbirth support.

For detailed information regarding the disabled family childbirth support fund, please contact the local community service center or the Jungnang-gu Office Disability Welfare Division (☎2094-2483).

Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu stated, "The newly implemented disabled family childbirth support fund system is expected not only to contribute to the health promotion of newborns and childcare but also to become an opportunity for everyone to feel the love and happiness of family through childbirth."
