Accelerating Expansion of North American 5G Market Share by Acquiring US Network Specialist Company
Possessing Network Design, Optimization, and Automation Technologies...
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Samsung Electronics has acquired TeleWorld Solutions (TWS), a US-based network 5G network design specialist company. This strategic investment aims to expand market share in the North American mobile communications market and to target the global network market.
On the 14th, Samsung Electronics announced that it has completed the acquisition of TWS and incorporated it as a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics America. Founded in 2002, TWS provides differentiated services such as network design, optimization, and field testing to major US mobile carriers and cable broadcasters. Samsung Electronics plans to maintain a business structure that can flexibly respond to the rapidly changing US mobile communications market by allowing TWS management to continue operating the business after the acquisition.
TWS has independently developed network verification and analysis automation technology that reduces the time required for optimal indoor and outdoor base station location selection, extraction of wireless signal interference sources, and base station cell design by 50 to 90% compared to previous methods. Through this acquisition, Samsung Electronics will be able to utilize TWS’s services to provide customers with necessary services for 5G network construction and accelerate the expansion of 5G networks in the North American region.
Currently, 5G networks are available only in some cities in the US, and there is high demand for network infrastructure design and optimization required for 5G network construction. As 5G networks become commercialized, frequencies and base stations used in mobile communications are diversifying across low bands of 600?800 MHz, mid bands of 2.5?4.9 GHz, and ultra-high frequency bands of 24?39 GHz. With increasingly complex network structures, efficient network design and optimization technologies have emerged as core competencies for securing 5G coverage.
Jeon Kyung-hoon, Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Network Business Division, said, "Samsung Electronics is recognized for its technology and business capabilities in the leading US mobile communications market, supplying 5G and 4G communication equipment to Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and others. As a global leader in the 5G market, Samsung Electronics will maximize synergy based on TWS’s expert personnel and differentiated service know-how to further expand its global market presence, including North America, in 2020."
Shalvin Jerami, CEO of TWS, stated, "As 5G commercialization expands, not only the performance of communication systems but also network design, construction, and optimization capabilities are becoming increasingly important. With TWS’s expert personnel and differentiated service know-how, we will contribute to strengthening Samsung Electronics’ position in the North American market."
