[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] The Lunar New Year gifts from President Moon Jae-in and the First Lady this year consist of a set of three regional specialties: Igangju (or honey) from Jeonju, Jeonbuk, Hangwa from Yangyang, Gangwon, and rice cake soup rice cakes from Gimhae, Gyeongnam.
The Blue House announced on the 10th, "President Moon and the First Lady plan to send Lunar New Year gifts to about 14,000 people, including those who have dedicated themselves to the nation in various fields, national merit recipients, and socially disadvantaged groups, in celebration of the Lunar New Year holiday."
The greeting message from President Moon accompanying the gifts included phrases such as "I hope the new 100 years will begin in 2020" and "We will continue to walk together unwaveringly toward peace and prosperity."
The recipients of President Moon's Lunar New Year gifts include those involved in responding to African swine fever prevention, firefighters who died in the Dokdo helicopter accident, those involved in responding to Japan's export restrictions, collaborators in the New Southern Policy such as the 2019 Korea-ASEAN Special Summit, elderly welfare workers, childcare teachers, and other social welfare workers.
Additionally, the gifts will be delivered to elders from various sectors who have dedicated themselves to national and social development, families of national merit recipients, and those recognized for acts of bravery.
Meanwhile, Blue House staff have decided to hold a direct trade market for agricultural, livestock, and fishery products on the 2nd floor of Yeonpungmun at the Blue House from the 14th to 15th, ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, to participate in promoting the sale and consumption expansion of domestic agricultural products.
