According to The Guardian and others, Buckingham Palace, which handles British royal affairs, announced this through a statement issued in the name of Prince Harry and Princess Meghan in the afternoon. They stated, "We are stepping back as 'senior' members of the royal family and aiming to become financially independent," adding, "Of course, our full support for the Queen will continue."

The couple explained that after long consideration and internal discussions, they decided to make this change this year, saying, "With your encouragement, we have been preparing for this adjustment for years." They added that they plan to live between the UK and North America. However, they promised to continue fulfilling their duties related to Queen Elizabeth II, the Commonwealth, and their current roles.

They said, "This geographical balance will allow our son to grow up appreciating the traditions of the royal family, while providing our family the opportunity to focus on a new chapter, including the launch of a new charitable organization," and expressed hope that all these details will be shared at an appropriate time.

Buckingham Palace described the decision by Prince Harry and Princess Meghan as still being in the "early stages," explaining, "We understand their desire to take a different approach from the royal family, but it is a complex issue that will require time to resolve."

Prince Harry and Princess Meghan have expressed negative views toward the media. Since marrying Hollywood actress Meghan Markle, Prince Harry has been rumored to have conflicts with his elder brother, Prince William.
