[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] The passage of the amendment to the Passenger Transport Service Act, commonly known as the 'Tada Prohibition Act,' has been postponed again.

The National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee will hold a plenary meeting at 10 a.m. on the 9th to discuss about ten bills.

Initially, it was expected that the Tada Prohibition Act, which is currently pending, would be processed at the committee meeting that day. However, as of 7 a.m., the bill was not included in the agenda released by the committee.

The amendment mainly requires platform transportation operators to secure vehicles and pay contributions when engaging in transportation business. In the case of 'Tada,' to continue operations, they must rent or purchase taxi licenses.

The ruling Democratic Party and the main opposition Liberty Korea Party engaged in a power struggle over the agenda late into the previous night. Subsequently, negotiations were halted, and it is reported that the agenda was decided by the committee chairperson Yeo Sang-gyu's authority.

The committee will attempt to process the Data 3 Laws (amendments to the Personal Information Protection Act, Credit Information Act, and Information and Communications Network Act) and three pension-related laws (amendments to the National Pension Act, Basic Pension Act, and Disabled Pension Act) on the same day.

With the delay in the passage of the Tada Prohibition Act, Tada has temporarily breathed a sigh of relief. Lee Jae-woong, CEO of Socar, said on Facebook ahead of the second trial the previous day, "We have no intention of entering the taxi market to compete with individual or corporate taxis. Rather, we are creating a new market to share and coexist with taxis." He added, "There are many concerns about jobs changing in the AI era," and emphasized, "Especially, laws and systems related to jobs do not reflect these changes, so our society must come together to find a social consensus."
