New Member Recruitment on the 3rd of Next Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Seoul City announced on the 9th that it will abolish the Passenger Car Day-of-the-Week System and unify it into a mileage system.
The Passenger Car Day-of-the-Week System is a voluntary citizen movement where individuals choose a day off from Monday to Friday, attach an electronic tag to their vehicle, and refrain from driving on that designated day. However, there have been ongoing controversies regarding its effectiveness, such as non-attachment of the tag.
The Passenger Car Mileage System provides incentives based on the reduction in driving distance by comparing the average annual mileage with the mileage driven during the first year after enrollment. Accumulated incentives can be used for automobile tax payments, and recruitment of new members for this year is scheduled to begin on February 3.
Passenger Car Mileage members can earn 3,000 points per participation after verification when they participate in vehicle non-operation during emergency fine dust reduction measures.
The abolition of the Day-of-the-Week System will maintain benefits during a six-month grace period.
