[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Sung-yeol] Actor Dongha has issued a clarification after being identified as the perpetrator in a club assault incident.
On the morning of the 8th, Dongha's agency, ANU Entertainment, released an official statement saying, "The person involved in the assault incident is a friend of Dongha. Dongha's friend is the victim in the incident."
Earlier, the Seocho Police Station in Seoul announced on the 7th that they had booked A, suspected of committing assault at a club in Seocho-gu on the morning of the 5th, without detention. According to the police, A is suspected of engaging in a physical altercation at the club.
As A was identified as a male actor in his 20s and Dongha was pointed out, Dongha's side officially responded with a clarification.
Dongha's agency stated, "On the early morning of the 5th, Dongha attended a friend's birthday party at a club in Seocho-gu. During the birthday party, an intoxicated person nearby suddenly pushed Dongha and started a dispute."
They continued, "The intoxicated person who pushed Dongha attempted to throw a punch at Dongha's face, and recognizing the danger, Dongha immediately left the scene. Dongha's friend, who remained at the scene, tried to stop the intoxicated person but was ultimately assaulted."
The agency added, "Dongha, who had left the scene, immediately went to the police station as a witness, but since he was not present at the time of the assault, he was told he was not involved and left the police station without filing a statement. Furthermore, Dongha solemnly swears that he did not touch the intoxicated person in any way, not even a hair, except being pushed and caught up in a one-sided dispute."
They also said, "It is extremely unfair and regrettable that he was falsely mentioned as the perpetrator of the assault simply because he is a celebrity."
Meanwhile, Dongha debuted in 2009 with the KBS drama 'Just Looking' and appeared in dramas such as 'Empire of Gold,' 'Three Days,' 'Beautiful Mind,' and 'Chief Kim.' He also gained recognition for his acting in films like 'My Dear Desperado' and 'Default.'
He enlisted for active duty in May 2018 and was discharged on the 1st of this month.
