[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Lee In-young, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, urged the Liberty Korea Party to speed up the deliberation of standing committees for the passage of important livelihood bills, following the withdrawal of filibusters (unlimited debates) on about 170 bills.

At the floor leaders' meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 7th, Lee said, "The Liberty Korea Party withdrew the filibuster on 177 livelihood bills yesterday," adding, "They have removed the shackles imposed on the livelihood bills by themselves."

Lee continued, "I request the Liberty Korea Party to take a broader and more generous stance and engage with more livelihood bills," and said, "Since all the livelihood bills pending in the Legislation and Judiciary Committee are extremely urgent, please open the way for their passage at the August plenary session." He emphasized, "'Data 3 Laws' (amendments to the Personal Information Protection Act, Credit Information Act, and Information and Communications Network Act) are urgently demanded by the industrial field. The 'Pension 3 Laws' (Basic Pension Act, Disabled Pension Act, National Pension Act) must be passed immediately to enable pension payments to the elderly and low-income citizens in January." He also requested, "Please lift the unlimited debate on the 'Kindergarten 3 Laws' now," and added, "We expect a progressive attitude from the Liberty Korea Party regarding the adjustment of investigative authority between the police and prosecutors."

Regarding the confirmation hearing of Prime Minister nominee Chung Sye-kyun held that day, he said, "It is a situation that requires extraordinary crisis response in the economy and diplomatic security," and added, "I hope it will be a 'real hearing'." He evaluated, "Candidate Chung has experience as Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, making him the optimal candidate to wisely navigate the Middle East situation," and said, "He is known to maintain amicable relations with the opposition party. We expect him to faithfully serve as a channel reflecting the opposition's voice in state affairs."
