[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Heo Midam] YouTuber I'm Tourettes (real name Hong Jeong-o), who suffers from Tourette syndrome (tic disorder), apologized for exaggerating his symptoms.
On the 6th, I'm Tourettes uploaded a video titled "Hello" on his YouTube channel.
In the video, he said, "I am sorry to meet you under these circumstances," and "I am currently on medication. I don't like taking medicine, but I took it now to communicate with the doctor," showing a prescription related to Tourette syndrome.
He admitted, "It is true that I exaggerated the (tic disorder) symptoms while creating YouTube content," and apologized, saying, "I am truly sorry for that. I sincerely apologize. I will take down all previous videos."
Also, regarding the provocative lyrics of his song "Bunsureul Moreuneun Nom part.2," I'm Tourettes stated, "It is true that I released the song," and "I did write the lyrics. I was afraid that it would be revealed that I wrote those lyrics, so I avoided it, which caused suspicion and much controversy. I apologize."
He continued, "I felt a lot of shame about the lyrics. After fulfilling the minimum registration period of two years, I immediately applied to stop the album. If anyone was hurt or offended by the lyrics, I apologize once again," reiterating his apology.
Earlier, some netizens claiming to be acquaintances of I'm Tourettes raised suspicions, saying, "When he was in the military, his symptoms were not that severe, so it's hard to understand how it suddenly became impossible to live daily life," and "He didn't have tic disorder before. The more I see it, the more it seems like he's pretending to have Tourette's and trying to make money."
As the controversy grew, on the 4th, I'm Tourettes announced on his YouTube channel, "I realized that other Tourette syndrome patients are being hurt because of me," and "Many students imitate my vocal tics. I am worried that this might really hurt patients with tics," and declared he would suspend his YouTube activities.
Meanwhile, Tourette syndrome is a disorder in which a person involuntarily and repeatedly makes very rapid movements or strange sounds with parts of the body such as the face, neck, shoulders, or torso for more than a year without any particular reason.
