'Frozen 2' nears 2nd place in all-time foreign box office... Chasing 'Avatar' by 30,372 viewers difference
The movie "Baekdusan" led the weekend box office for three consecutive weeks. According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system on the 6th, the film attracted 565,107 viewers over the past weekend (3rd to 5th) across 1,222 screens (16,822 screenings). Although this is a 52.9% (635,903 viewers) decrease from the last weekend of the previous month (1,201,010 viewers from the 27th to 29th), it showed the highest revenue share at 30.4%. The cumulative audience reached 7,479,729, surpassing the break-even point of 7.3 million viewers. Whether the upward trend will continue this week remains uncertain. The seat occupancy rate dropped nearly by half, from 33.4% to 17.9%. On the 8th, new releases such as "Doctor Dolittle" and "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" are expected to open, significantly reducing the number of screens.
"Cheonmun: Asking the Sky" attracted 343,201 viewers across 922 screens (10,556 screenings). This is a 36.6% (197,740 viewers) decrease from the last weekend of the previous month (540,941 viewers), but it held an 18.1% revenue share. The seat occupancy rate was 21.1%, with a cumulative audience of 1,611,402. The new release "Midway" drew 306,233 viewers on 842 screens (8,757 screenings). Among films securing more than 10,000 seats, it showed the sixth-highest seat occupancy rate at 23.7%. Its cumulative audience is 669,810.
"Start-Up" attracted 264,168 viewers on 825 screens (8,766 screenings). This is a 42.9% (198,200 viewers) decrease from the last weekend of the previous month (462,368 viewers), but the cumulative audience surpassed 3 million, reaching 3,037,917. "Frozen 2" drew 112,534 viewers on 644 screens (4,009 screenings). This is a 41.2% (78,806 viewers) decrease from the last weekend of the previous month (191,340 viewers). The cumulative audience is 13,593,956. It is closing in on the all-time foreign film box office second place "Avatar" (13,624,328 viewers) by a margin of 30,372 viewers.
"Shinbi Apartment: The Movie - Sky Goblin vs. Jormungandr" attracted 74,413 viewers on 513 screens (2,308 screenings). With the highest seat occupancy rate of 26.9%, it recorded a cumulative audience of 810,304. Following it were "Ford v Ferrari" (47,384 viewers; cumulative 1,288,963), "21 Bridges: Terror Shutdown" (34,171 viewers; cumulative 66,370), "Knives Out" (31,260 viewers; cumulative 719,802), and "The Snow Queen 4" (20,729 viewers; cumulative 184,801) in that order.
