[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] GS25 introduced a new concept dessert beverage called 'Dear Pudding,' which combines pudding and drinks, on the 3rd.
Dear Pudding was developed with a caramel pudding concept to be shaken before drinking. It contains konjac powder and pectin, replicating the soft and tender texture of pudding in a beverage form.
When stored cold in the refrigerator and consumed without shaking, it offers a chewy texture similar to eating pudding. However, if shaken vigorously several times, it transforms into a sweet caramel-flavored drink with bits of pudding to chew on.
Meanwhile, GS25's dessert sales last year increased by 125.6% compared to 2018. GS25 attributes this growth to customers seeking high-quality products at affordable prices, leading to more people purchasing desserts at convenience stores.
Currently, GS25 strengthens its lineup by selling 35 different dessert products, including tiramisu, roll cakes, brownies, slice cakes, cream puffs, and tarts. The variety of products has expanded significantly from 10 types in 2016 and 15 types in 2017 to 35 types as of 2020, alongside a large increase in product sales.
Additionally, the popularity of GS25's instant brewed coffee, Cafe25, which sells over 9 million cups annually, has contributed to the sales increase as more customers look for desserts to enjoy with their coffee. New terms such as 'Pyeonjeoteu' (desserts sold at convenience stores) and 'Pyeondijok' (people who enjoy convenience store desserts) have emerged, reflecting the explosive growth in customer purchases.
Kim Daejong, MD of the Beverage Food Team at GS Retail, stated, “Targeting the rapidly growing dessert category aligned with trends like small luxury, emotional value, and small but certain happiness, we have introduced a new concept dessert beverage that satisfies both taste and fun. GS25 will continue to launch various products that can lead the convenience store industry for our customers.”
