Ahn Cheol-soo Declares Return to Politics
Park Ji-won: "Whether He Returns or Not, Conservative Grand Unification Will Be Impossible"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Suwan] Former People's Party leader Ahn Cheol-soo has declared his return to politics, while Park Ji-won, a member of the Alternative New Party, stated, "Whether Ahn returns or not, conservative grand unification is absolutely impossible."
On the 2nd, Park appeared on TBS Radio's 'Kim Eo-jun's News Factory' and said, "It is true that Ahn is a 21st-century young leader, but he disguised himself as a progressive force because he wanted to become president, and after failing, he returned."
Park added, "His ability to seize opportunities is top-notch. Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the Liberty Korea Party, is being evaluated on his leadership, and since unification is not happening, Ahn thought, 'Now is the time for me to step in.' He sensed the opportunity. Whether Ahn returns or not, conservative grand unification is absolutely impossible."
He continued, "For conservative grand unification to happen, Ahn must also declare that he will not run in the general election, nor for party leader, nor for president upon his return. He must sacrifice himself," explaining, "However, if he insists on being a member of the National Assembly, party leader, and presidential candidate, it will only result in a minor party."
Meanwhile, Ahn announced his return to domestic politics in a post on his Facebook on the same day. Ahn stated, "Our country's politics have worsened compared to when I was called eight years ago. If our people called and led me to the path of politics, now I want to move forward toward the future together with the people," explaining his reason for returning to politics.
