[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Civilian reserve forces, who serve as emergency military personnel, have joined hands with the public, private, and military sectors to operate "ultra-light flying devices (hereinafter drones)," which are becoming core technologies of military power in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.

On the 30th of last month, Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong District Office, Yoon Jong-wook, Battalion Commander of the 2nd Battalion, Army Unit 3298, and Cho Hyun-joon, CEO of Drone School, gathered in one place at Seongdong District Office.

This was to sign the "Public-Private-Military Integrated Defense Operation Agreement for the Operation of Ultra-Light Flying Devices (Drones)" to run a specialized drone course for local reservists through cooperation among the public, private, and military sectors?the first of its kind among local governments nationwide.

The agreement was made to support education related to drone operation, a core technology of the 4th Industrial Revolution, aimed at enhancing the mission performance capabilities of local reservists and utilizing specialized personnel in the event of integrated defense posture occurrences, in line with the development of advanced scientific technology.

Accordingly, Seongdong District will provide a specialized drone training center within the 4th Industrial Revolution Center, which was first opened nationwide in 2017, and secure district budget to offer a total of eight courses. The drone specialist education company "Drone School" will provide professional instructors and conduct overall drone education. Starting from March this year, education will begin for 70 full-time reservists, including local reservist surveillance reconnaissance teams and commanders of the Dongdaemun Headquarters, with plans to expand to all reservists in Seongdong District in the future.

Yoon Jong-wook, Battalion Commander of the 2nd Battalion, Army Unit 3298, said, "Through this agreement, it is expected that the use of drones during integrated defense operations will contribute to establishing an integrated defense posture by enabling more effective surveillance and tracking missions."

Drone School, which participated in the agreement, plans to actively support equipment and specialized personnel not only for reservist education but also in the event of integrated defense situations such as terrorism at national critical facilities, multi-use facilities, and various disasters.
