[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Lim Juhyung] As we welcome the New Year of 2020, the Year of the Rat, interest is growing in the 'How to Cook Tteokguk Deliciously' method revealed by the culinary researcher Baek Jong-won in the past.
Baek Jong-won appeared on KBS's 'Morning News Time 8' in 2017 and shared his recipe for Tteokguk.
According to the broadcast, the ingredients needed for Tteokguk per serving are one bowl of rice bowl-sized Tteokguk rice cakes, bulgogi-cut beef, minced garlic, and green onions. Instead of beef, it is also possible to make the broth using pork or oysters.
First, put sesame oil and cooking oil in a pan, stir-fry the meat, and when the meat's blood is gone, pour one bowl of water (rice bowl size). Then add 2 spoons of soup soy sauce and boil until the broth is reduced. Add two rice bowls worth of rice cakes.
After adding more water and boiling, add one spoon of garlic, and finish by adding fish sauce for seasoning.
Additionally, Baek Jong-won shared a tip for making egg garnish. Adding a little water to the beaten eggs helps shape it nicely.
