[아시아경제 백종민 기자] 미군 7함대 소속 이지스 구축함 피츠제럴드함(DDG 62)이 17일 일본 인근에서 필리핀 상선과 충돌하는 사고가 발생했다.

CNN에 따르면 이날 오전 2시 30분 피츠제럴드함은 요코스카에서 56마일 떨어진 해상에서 필리핀 상선과 충돌했다고 미국 당국이 발표했다.

피츠제럴드함은 충돌 이후 비상조치에 들어갔고 전력이 꺼져 자체 기동이 불가능한 상태다. 미군측은 일본 해안경비대에 예인선을 요청했다. 다만 침물 가능성은 없다고 미 해군측은 밝혔다.

몇 명의 승조원이 부상했는지 등 인적 물적 피해규모는 파악 중이다. 백악관도 사태를 파악 중이라고 CNN은 전했다.

'바다의 방패'라는 별칭으로도 유명한 이지스 구축함인 피츠제럴드는 승조원이 약 330명이다.
