Korean female actress Nam Sang-mi has been cast as the female lead in an upcoming TV series starring Ahn Jae-wook, according to the show's promoter iMC on Thursday.
A press release from iMC announced that Nam will take on the role of Lee Jung-hae who has lived a life full of ups and downs before making her debut as a singer in the series "Light and Shadow" (translated title).
She will also be involved in a love triangle between Kang Ki-tae (Ahn) and Cha Soo-hyuk (played by actor Lee Pil-mo).
"I am honored to be chosen as the female lead for this special MBC drama which will mark the 50th anniversary of the major broadcaster," Nam was quoted as saying.
"We felt that Nam had the qualities that we were looking for in Lee Jung-hae and we know that the cast will do a great job for the series," an official with iMC said in the press release.
The series, also starring singer Son Dambi, will revolve around the life of the first business man in Korea while it will also depict the main events which occurred in Korean history from the 1960s to present day Korea.
The show will take over the Wednesday and Thursday primetime spot after historical saga "Gyebaek" ends its run in November.
Nam made her debut in MBC's TV series "Love Letter" in 2003 and has since appeared in "Sweet Spy" (MBC, 2005), "Time Between Dog And Wolf" (MBC, 2007), "Life is Beautiful" (SBS, 2010) and most recently in Ku Hye-sun's film "Peach Tree" opposite Cho Seung-woo.
