Korean idol group 2NE1’s “GO AWAY” has been selected as the new theme song for a Japanese news program.
According to the notice board of 2NE1’s official Japanese website, Fuji TV’s “Mezamashi News” has decided to use 2NE1’s Japanese debut song “GO AWAY,” as its theme song for the program starting today.
The song, which will be the girls’ debut single in Japan, has already been released in Korea as one of the title tracks to the group’s first full-length album released late last year that topped numerous music charts.
This is the second time for a song by a Korean artist to be chosen as the theme song for "Mezamashi" -- the first was “HANDS UP,” by boy band Big Bang of the same agency YG Entertainment as 2NE1, for six months starting April of last year.
Meanwhile, 2NE1 was set to make their official music debut in Japan with their debut single "GO AWAY" earlier this month but have delayed their plans following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami that has left at least 21,000 people dead or missing and thousands homeless.
The quartet, composed of member Park Bom, Sandara Park, CL and Minzy, has been one of the most popular girl groups in the country since their debut in May 2009. They have a number of hit songs including “Try To Follow Me,” “I Don’t Care” and “Fire.”
