“49 days” and “Royal Family” co-winners on TV charts for 3rd week

“49 Days” and “Royal Family” continued to lead TV charts for the third consecutive week, according to the findings by two media research companies on Friday. According to data by Total National Multimedia Statistics (TNmS), SBS romance fantasy “49 Days” yielded an average viewership rating of 11.6 percent, coming out first on the primetime slot for Wednesdays and Thursdays, the number improving by about 1.2 percent from last time. MBC’s family suspense drama “Royal Family” posted an average viewership rating of 10.1 percent, rising a step in ranks from last week while KBS melodrama “The Thorn Birds” was pushed down to last place with an average viewership of 10 percent. Separately, AGB Nielsen Media Research (AGB), again crowned “Royal Family” the winner of the primetime slot for the sixth week in-a-row with figures improving by 0.2 percent from the last survey to post an average rating of 13 percent. “49 Days” came second with an average viewership rating of 12.2 percent and “The Thorn Birds,” at third with 10.8 percent, the numbers increased by 1.6 percent and 0.3 percent, respectively. “49 Days” starring Nam Kyu-ri, Lee Yo-won, Jung Il-woo and Jo Hyun-jae is about a girl named Shin Ji-hyun (played by Nam) who becomes a wandering soul after a car accident leaves her body in coma. She needs to find three people who will cry for her to be revived and the Death Scheduler (Jung) allows her to use the body of Song Yi-kyung (Lee) to accomplish that task but with a time limit of 49 Days. “Royal Family,” whose main casts are Yum Jung-ah, Ji Sung, Kim Young-ae and Cha Ye-ryun, depicts one woman’s struggle to come out a winner amid power games and dark schemes surrounding the conglomerate family JK group. After the death of her husband, In-sook (Yum) uses all her means to secure her position in the family against her mother-in-law who wants to get rid of her. Ji-hoon (Ji Sung) family lawyer-turned-prosecutor comes to her rescue. “The Thorn Birds,” led by Han Hye-jin, Kim Min-jung and Joo Sang-uk, tells the contrasting fate of two women, Yoo-kyung (Kim) who abandons her mother, child and the man she loves to study abroad and Jeong-eun (Han) who embraces Yoo-kyung’s responsibility with love.
