“Meet The In-Laws” posts 2nd win on box office

Local film “Meet The In-Laws” claimed the No. 1 spot on the weekend box office chart from April 8 to 10 for second week in-a-row, according to the Korean Box Office Information System (KOBIS) on Monday. “Meet The In-Laws,” a romantic comedy which premiered at the end of March, brought in a total 452,196 viewers in 583 theaters nationwide during the three-day session.Starring Song Sae-byeok and Lee Si-young, the film portrays the deep-rooted regionalism existent in Korea in the 1980’s through Hyun-joon, (played by Song) a cartoonist from Jeolla Province, who has to meet with the parents of his girlfriend Da-hong (Lee) from the Gyeongsang Province. “Sucker Punch,” an action-fantasy thriller which opened in 279 theaters last Thursday, debuted at No. 2 after selling 96,104 tickets during the last three days. The film which stars Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens and Abbie Cornish, begins with a young girl institutionalized in a mental asylum who tries to find ways to escape before undergoing a lobotomy. She retreats into a fantasy world while working to break free from the institution with her inmates.Bollywood film “My Name Is Khan,” currently screened in 281 theaters, settled at third place after climbing four steps from last week. Starring Indian star actor Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Sheetal Menon, the film is about Rizwan Khan, a Muslim man suffering from Asperger’s syndrome, trying to meet with the U.S. President to tell him that he is not a terrorist and that his son rather died of racial violence at school following the 9/11 attack.
