Samsung SDI announced on March 2 that it will showcase a variety of battery products targeting the artificial intelligence (AI) era at "InterBattery 2026," which will be held at COEX in Seoul for three days starting on March 11.

At this exhibition, Samsung SDI will present under the slogan "AI thinks, Battery enables," aiming to display ultra-high output and high-quality battery products and innovative technologies essential for the AI era.

Samsung SDI plans to highlight the importance of ultra-high output batteries that support zero power interruption in AI data centers by exhibiting battery solutions for uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and battery backup units (BBU) at the center of its booth.

The company's UPS battery, "U8A1," is a prismatic battery form factor product that applies lithium manganese oxide (LMO) material, achieving both high output performance and safety. Last year, it was the only domestic company to be selected as an "Award Winner" at "The Smarter E Europe," the largest energy exhibition in Europe.

The BBU battery solution, which will be unveiled for the first time at this exhibition, features ultra-high output and high-capacity cylindrical batteries. By directly connecting these high-output, high-capacity cylindrical batteries to servers, the system can respond quickly and instantly during power peaks and secure additional data storage time in the event of a power outage.

Samsung SDI will also exhibit its entire lineup of Samsung Battery Box (SBB), an all-in-one battery solution for energy storage systems (ESS). SBB is an integrated ESS battery solution first launched by Samsung SDI in 2023.

The SBB fills a 20-foot (ft) container with prismatic nickel cobalt aluminum (NCA) or lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries and applies advanced technologies such as its proprietary module-integrated enhanced direct injection (EDI), cell anomaly pre-diagnosis, and automatic lifetime measurement to ensure safety and longevity.

This year, Samsung SDI plans to unveil for the first time its AI-based fire prevention software, "Samsung Battery Intelligence (SBI)," at the exhibition.

In addition, Samsung SDI will introduce its all-solid-state battery, which is under development with mass production targeted for the second half of 2027. The company plans to respond to various physical AI applications, such as humanoids, mobile robots, and industrial robots, with all-solid-state batteries.

A Samsung SDI official explained, "Physical AI, which must perform both high-performance computation and precise operation simultaneously, requires high energy density, stable output, and absolute safety. Therefore, all-solid-state batteries, which offer high energy density and a low risk of fire, are gaining attention as a solution."

Additionally, Samsung SDI plans to emphasize the competitiveness of its ultra-high output cylindrical batteries with tabless technology through joint marketing with the global power tool brand Milwaukee.
