“Mobilizing All Capabilities for Overseas Koreans,” Minister Announces on Facebook
Sung-ho Jung, Minister of Justice, announced on March 1 that, amid the rapidly growing uncertainty in the Middle East following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei as a result of airstrikes by the United States and Israel, all administrative resources would be devoted to ensuring the safety of Korean nationals living abroad.
On his Facebook account that day, Minister Jung said, “Due to the recent situation in Iran, there is significant public concern regarding the safety of our citizens overseas,” and conveyed this commitment.
The Immigration Service of the Ministry of Justice plans to operate a “dedicated immigration inspection desk” at Incheon International Airport as a proactive measure to prepare for the possible emergency return of Korean nationals from the Middle East. Minister Jung explained that immigration staff will also be flexibly deployed to ensure that Korean nationals and their accompanying foreign family members can enter the country quickly and efficiently.
Additionally, the Ministry of Justice is maintaining a close cooperation system with related agencies, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and is closely monitoring any changes in the local situation in real time. Minister Jung emphasized, “We will mobilize all the capabilities of the Ministry of Justice to ensure the safety of our citizens and overseas nationals as we closely monitor the situation in the Middle East.”
