Damyang County in Jeonnam has selected 20 grassroots communities to foster the creation of livable villages and is launching full-scale support initiatives for their development.

According to Damyang County on March 1, 2026, the county will provide full support with a total project fund of 83 million KRW to 20 communities selected for the "2026 Jeonnam Village Making Contest Project" and the "Damyang County Grassroots Community Stepping Stone Project."

The village community project is a resident-led initiative where local residents directly identify and solve village issues, form relationships, and plan village projects to revitalize their communities.

This year, the selected communities comprise a total of 20 groups: under the Jeonnam provincial contest project, four seed-level and two sprout-level community activity support groups, nine "Happiness Dream Care Communities," and, as Damyang County's own initiative, two "Didim" and three "Dodum" communities under the Grassroots Community Stepping Stone Project.

Accordingly, on February 26, the Damyang County Grassroots Community Support Center conducted a preliminary training session at the Eoullim Center for the selected communities to prepare for the full-scale implementation of their projects.

The training provided detailed guidance on how to use "Botam-e," the local subsidy management system, and on accounting and settlement procedures. Customized consulting was also offered, including one-on-one meetings to review and adjust project content and budgets for each community.

In particular, newly participating communities were thoroughly briefed on the procedures for issuing a unique identification number and key considerations when launching their projects, while existing communities received support for advancing their projects and developing long-term activity plans to enhance their organizational capacity.

Yang Sun-ae, Head of the Damyang County Grassroots Community Support Center, stated, "About 500 communities have participated over the past 10 years, bringing great vitality to the local area. We will actively support the newly selected communities so they can further enhance the value of their villages and strengthen the bonds among residents."
