Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced that it held a commemorative ceremony on March 1st at the Goyang City Culture and Arts Center Gymnasium to inherit the noble patriotism of the martyr patriots and to reflect on the significance of the March 1st Movement, marking the 107th anniversary of Samiljeol.

The ceremony was attended by around 300 people, including Mayor Lee Donghwan, Lee Byungbu, head of the Goyang branch of the Liberation Association, as well as members of the Liberation Association and leaders of veterans and security organizations. The event began with the national ceremony, followed by a report on the progress of the March 1st Movement, a reading of the Declaration of Independence, recognition of meritorious individuals, a commemorative speech, a group singing of the March 1st Movement Song, and a three cheers for independence.
In his commemorative speech, Mayor Lee Donghwan expressed his gratitude, saying, "I would like to thank everyone who has joined us on this meaningful day commemorating the 107th anniversary of the March 1st Movement." He added, "The noble spirit of our ancestors still lives on in our hearts and has become the foundation for the freedom and prosperity of the Republic of Korea today."
Mayor Lee especially emphasized the historical significance of Goyang Special City, stating, "When land routes were blocked, our ancestors made their way by water, waving the Taegeukgi from boats at Hangju Ferry. The 'Seonsang Manse Movement' is a remarkable legacy unique to Goyang, rarely found in the history of independence movements around the world."

He also mentioned the torchlight demonstrations at Eungbongsan in Byeokje-myeon and Gajanggok in Gwansan-ri, which burned even brighter in the darkest times, and added, "The courage inscribed between the lands and waterways of Goyang forms the strongest roots that support Goyang Special City today."
Mayor Lee concluded his speech by quoting Baekbeom Kim Gu, "The only thing I wish to have boundlessly is the power of a high culture," and stated, "The 'power of a high culture' dreamed of by Kim Gu is in line with our aspirations today." He then presented a vision for Goyang Special City to move forward as a culturally-centered city.
