"Taking Comprehensive Measures to Ensure the Safety of Korean Nationals Overseas"
The Blue House announced that, in connection with the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei following airstrikes by the United States and Israel, it is "closely monitoring the situation and taking a range of measures to ensure the safety of Korean nationals overseas."
On March 1, a Blue House official stated, "We hope that stability and peace in the Middle East will be restored as soon as possible."
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on social media on February 28 (local time) that "Khamenei, one of the most evil people in history, has died." This announcement came about 15 hours after the United States and Israel attacked Iran. Subsequently, the Iranian government officially announced Khamenei’s death as well.
Previously, the Blue House National Security Office convened a working-level meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) after the United States and Israel began their airstrikes on Iran and has been closely monitoring the aftermath of the situation. President Lee Jaemyung has reportedly been receiving frequent updates on the developments.
