Kept Photos of Deceased Women Secretly Taken in Morgues
A police officer in his 50s in Japan has been dismissed for secretly photographing the bodies of deceased women for more than 10 years and keeping the photos for personal use.

According to local media reports such as the Yomiuri Shimbun on February 28, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department has taken disciplinary dismissal action against Mr. A (52), a senior sergeant at the Ayase Police Station in Tokyo.
Mr. A is accused of photographing approximately 20 deceased female bodies stored in morgues while working at Akabane, Joto, and Fuchu Police Stations from 2009 to 2022 with his smartphone, and subsequently taking about 500 related photo data files to his home. Investigations revealed that he kept these materials for personal use, and no evidence of their external leakage has been found.
The crime came to light in September of last year when he was caught in the act of illegal filming at a train station in Saitama Prefecture. During the investigation, a search of his residence uncovered the problematic photos and video files of the bodies. These included not only images of corpses but also photos of injuries sustained by female victims in various incidents and accidents.

During the police investigation, he reportedly stated, "I did it to satisfy my sexual desires." In light of the seriousness of the matter, the local police decided on the strongest level of disciplinary action: dismissal.
Separately, Mr. A has also been referred to prosecutors on charges of illegal filming of women at train stations in Tokyo and Saitama Prefecture on five occasions since December 2022, as well as on charges of engaging in prostitution with minors and possession of obscene materials.
