Daljip Burning and Fireworks Light Up Anyangcheon
Yangcheon District in Seoul (Mayor Yichae Lee) announced on March 1 that it held the "Jeongwol Daeboreum Folk Festival" at the No. 1 and No. 2 baseball fields under Sinjeonggyo Bridge along Anyangcheon on the afternoon of February 28. The event attracted about 5,000 residents, marking the largest turnout in the festival's history.
At the '2026 Jeongwol Daeboreum Folk Festival,' people pray for health and happiness by burning a daljip (traditional moon house). Provided by Yangcheon-gu.
The festival began at 3 p.m. with a pungmul band parade and continued with a variety of programs, including hands-on experiences of traditional folk games, art performances, Daljip burning, and fireworks. Visitors of all ages, including families, seniors, and youth, came together to wish for peace throughout the Year of Byeongo.
The highlight of the festival was the Daljip burning ceremony, where a large Daljip, 10 meters tall, was erected. Residents attached wish papers to the Daljip and set it alight together, praying for health and happiness. This was followed by a Ganggangsullae circle dance and a fireworks display that lit up the night sky over Anyangcheon.
Yichae Lee, Mayor of Yangcheon District, said, "I hope that all the wishes placed on the Daljip come true and that every household enjoys health and peace. I sincerely wish for further development of Yangcheon District and a happy 2026 for all residents."
