At approximately 8:52 a.m. that day, a fire broke out during construction in a seven-story building located in Baekhyeon-dong, when sparks spread to the exterior wall panels. The fire authorities were dispatched to the scene. At 8:57 a.m., the fire department issued Level 1 of their emergency response, which was lifted at 10:54 a.m., and the fire was completely extinguished around noon.
Immediately after the fire, Seongnam City deployed staff from the Disaster Safety Office, Bundang-gu Health Center, Bundang-gu Office's duty room, and Baekhyeon-dong Administrative Welfare Center to the scene, and launched an emergency response in close cooperation with fire and police authorities.
The building housed orthopedic and internal medicine clinics, and thanks to the swift actions of firefighters and medical staff, a total of 84 people, including 40 patients and 44 staff members, were evacuated in an orderly manner.
In particular, Seongnam City focused on ensuring the safety of evacuated patients and preventing any gaps in treatment. In consultation with the hospital, 26 evacuated patients were first transported to nearby hospitals, and existing inpatients among them were then distributed to four hospitals, including Seongnam City Medical Center, so they could continue to receive treatment.
Mayor Seong Sangjin personally visited the hospitals where patients had been transferred, carefully checked the conditions of patients and their guardians, listened to their concerns, and stated, "We will do our utmost to ensure that the evacuated patients do not experience any inconvenience."
