The story of a public official who got out of his car without hesitation during a tense morning commute to save a citizen's life has come to light belatedly, leaving a warm impression on the local community.
The protagonist of this good deed is Sangjun Park, Administrative Officer of the Asset Management Team in the Accounting Division at Icheon City Hall.
The incident occurred around 8 a.m. on January 15 near the crosswalk at Icheon Intersection. At that time, a pedestrian suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed, creating an emergency situation.
Park, who was waiting at a nearby traffic signal, witnessed the situation and immediately got out of his vehicle. Without delay, he checked the patient's condition, secured the airway, and calmly performed CPR until the 119 emergency response team arrived at the scene.
According to footage from the scene, Park administered first aid skillfully without panic, even in a dangerous road environment, and safely handed the patient over to the emergency responders.
Byungil Kim, Administrative Officer of the Civil Complaint Communication Rapid Response Team, said, "While reviewing a citizen's recommendation for commendation, I felt even more rewarded upon realizing the nominee was a colleague. We are discussing various ways to encourage him, including awarding a commendation, in consultation with the relevant department."
Sangjun Park's actions serve as a model, highlighting the importance of regular first-aid training and the sense of duty expected from public officials.
