Drew attention after enrolling at Yonsei University
Maddox (24), the son of Angelina Jolie (50) and Brad Pitt (62), who attended Yonsei University in South Korea, has reportedly removed his father's surname, "Pitt," from his name.
According to a report by the American entertainment media outlet People on the 26th (local time), Maddox participated as an assistant director in Angelina Jolie's new film "Couture" and was credited under the name "Maddox Jolie," not "Maddox Jolie-Pitt."
In the ending credits of the film, which premiered in France on the 25th, Maddox's name appeared as "Maddox Jolie," rather than the previous "Maddox Jolie-Pitt."
This marks a contrast to his previous actions. In the production notes distributed during the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) screening last September, his name was also listed as "Maddox Jolie."
This is different from when he participated as a production assistant in the 2024 Netflix film "Maria," where he was credited as "Maddox Jolie-Pitt."
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt began divorce proceedings in 2016 and, after a lengthy legal battle, officially separated in 2024. Angelina Jolie is raising their six children: Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, Pax, Knox, and Vivienne.
Since then, Vivienne, Shiloh, and Zahara have also removed their father's surname, "Pitt." In particular, Shiloh filed legal documents on her 18th birthday to have "Pitt" removed from her surname, making the change official. Zahara introduced herself as "Zahara Marley Jolie" in a self-introduction video for her Spelman College sorority. Vivienne was credited as "Vivienne Jolie" in the musical "Outsider" produced by Jolie.
People previously reported, quoting a source last year, that "these situations, which serve as a reminder of losing his children, are never easy for Pitt. He still deeply loves and misses his children."
Meanwhile, Maddox, Angelina Jolie's eldest son, drew attention in 2019 when he enrolled in the Department of Biotechnology at Underwood International College (UIC) of Yonsei University. He returned to the United States after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and took a leave of absence in 2021, after which he did not return to school.
