20 Tons of Waste Collected at Daekwang Beach

Sinan County in South Jeolla Province has launched marine cleanup activities to prepare for the increasing number of spring tourists, aiming to create a pristine marine environment.
According to the county, on the 26th, about 70 public officials participated in a "Clean Sea Initiative" marine cleanup campaign in the area around Daekwang Beach in Imja-myeon. This activity was organized in advance of the "2026 Island Hongmaehwa Festival," which is scheduled to take place from February 27 to March 2.
The participants focused on collecting marine debris such as discarded Styrofoam, waste vinyl, and abandoned fishing gear along the coastline, processing approximately 20 tons of waste. Daekwang Beach is a leading tourist attraction in Sinan, and this cleanup not only provides visitors with a pleasant environment but also serves as an opportunity to highlight the importance of protecting the marine ecosystem.
A county official stated, "We will expand marine cleanup activities into a regular campaign, not just a one-time event," adding, "We will continue to manage this effort so that both residents and tourists can enjoy a clean and safe sea."
Going forward, the county plans to strengthen environment conservation activities tailored to the region’s characteristics to further solidify its image as 'Clean Sea 1004.'
