Fire Breaks Out from Torch During Grout Application
Three Suffer Burns and Smoke Inhalation, Transported for Treatment
An accident occurred in which a fire broke out from a butane gas torch during grout application work at an apartment in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, injuring three people including the workers.
According to the fire authorities on February 27, a fire started at around 9:37 a.m. at the entrance of a third-floor apartment unit located in Soho-dong, Yeosu, South Jeolla Province.
As a result of the fire, two people suffered first-degree burns and one person inhaled smoke. In total, three people sustained minor injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital by the 119 emergency rescue team for treatment. Fortunately, the fire did not spread further and was completely extinguished within 22 minutes.
According to the investigation, the fire is believed to have started when a spark occurred while a worker was using a high-powered butane gas torch to apply epoxy grout at the entrance of the unit.
The police and fire authorities are closely investigating the exact cause of the fire, including whether there was negligence in handling the gas torch by the workers on site, as well as assessing the amount of property damage.
