Banwol Jungang-dong in Masanhappo-gu, Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, held a prayer ritual and Jisin Balgi event from February 25 to 26 to celebrate Jeongwol Daeboreum, under the organization of the Council of Community Leaders, wishing for the well-being of residents and the development of the local community.
This year’s Jisin Balgi event began with a prayer ritual at the Masanhappo-gu District Office square on February 25. Around 50 participants, including the Banwol Jungang-dong folk band and members of local organizations, visited more than 90 locations such as public offices, Banwol Jungang Market, shopping districts, and residential areas, performing traditional folk music along the way.
Jisin Balgi is a traditional Korean folk event that takes place between the beginning of the lunar new year and Jeongwol Daeboreum. It is a community ritual to comfort the earth deity (Jisin), praying for a bountiful harvest, peace, good health, longevity, and the well-being of the village throughout the year.
The Banwol Jungang-dong Council of Community Leaders stated, “Welcoming the new year of Byeong-o, we hope that through the Jisin Balgi event, peace and harmony will come to Banwol Jungang-dong,” adding, “We wish this event serves as an opportunity for all residents to share blessings in the new year and reaffirm the bonds of neighborly love.”
