Rising Interest in Cultural Heritage Amid Declining School-Age Population
Accelerating the Nurturing of Next-Generation National Heritage Talent
Korea National University of Cultural Heritage will hold its 2026 entrance ceremony at 2 p.m. on March 3 at the university gymnasium in Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do.
This year, 270 freshmen will be admitted. A total of 150 undergraduate students from the College of Science and Technology and the College of Cultural Heritage, and 120 graduate students in the General, National Heritage Specialist, and Future Cultural Heritage programs will take their first step.
Despite the crisis of a declining school-age population, growing interest in cultural heritage combined with cutting-edge Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies pushed the overall average competition rate to 7.71 to 1, up from 6.19 to 1 the previous year. In particular, the newly introduced rolling admission track for outstanding essay applicants recorded a rate of 9.29 to 1.
The new students completed a three-day motivation program designed to help them adapt to university life, which started on February 25. The university stated, "We will nurture outstanding talent to lead the future of national heritage by providing not only high-quality curricula but also a wide range of cultural experiences, including traditional Coming-of-Age Day events and intangible heritage experiences."
