Gyeonggi Province will hold a ceremony to mark the 107th anniversary of the March 1st Independence Movement Day at 11:00 a.m. on March 1, 2026, at the Grand Theater of the Gyeonggi Arts Center in Suwon, under the theme "Complete Independence, Certain Peace, True Prosperity!".
About 800 participants will attend the event, including the Gyeonggi Provincial Branch of the Liberation Association, city and county branches of the Liberation Association, heads of veterans' organizations, and runners of the Peace Run.
Before the commemorative ceremony, Gyeonggi Province will hold the "March 1st Independence Movement Day Peace Run," covering approximately 3.1 km from the Suwon Memorial Tower to the plaza of the Gyeonggi Arts Center.
As they run together, provincial resident messengers, including descendants of independence patriots, will deliver a message of unity that carries the spirit of independence into the future.
Afterwards, the themed mini documentary "Complete Independence, Certain Peace, True Prosperity!" will be screened, highlighting Governor of the Provisional Government Shin Suk from Gapyeong and Governor of the Provisional Government Kim Yeonbang from Hwaseong.
Governor of the Provisional Government Shin Suk was an independence activist who devoted himself to proofreading, printing, and disseminating the Declaration of Independence, while Governor of the Provisional Government Kim Yeonbang was martyred by Japanese military police gunfire during the independence Manse Movement in Hwaseong.
The mini documentary captures scenes in which "provincial resident messengers of independence, peace, and prosperity," who set off from the Gapyeong March 1st Anti-Japanese Movement Monument and the Hwaseong Independence Movement Memorial Hall to honor the two patriots' noble will, run across Gyeonggi Province and then join together at the March 1st Independence Movement Memorial Tower on Paldalsan in Suwon to shout "Long live the Republic of Korea!".
At this year's commemorative ceremony, the "Daehan (Muo) Declaration of Independence," the first declaration of independence that preceded the March 1st Declaration of Independence, will be recited as a special feature. Descendants of Governor of the Provisional Government Shin Suk, Shin Hyungil, and Governor of the Provisional Government Kim Yeonbang, Kim Juyong, along with Kim Hodong, head of the Gyeonggi Provincial Branch of the Liberation Association, and Peace Run runners will take part in the recitation to honor the will of the fallen patriots.
