It has been calculated that Samsung Electronics surged more than 7% on the 26th, pushing its market capitalization past the 1 trillion dollar mark and moving it up to 12th place in the global rankings of listed companies by market value.
According to CompaniesMarketCap.com, a U.S. market capitalization tracking website, Samsung Electronics' share price rose 7.13% that day, raising its market capitalization to 1.021 trillion dollars.
As a result, Samsung Electronics overtook Walmart (1.020 trillion dollars) and Eli Lilly (970.55 billion dollars), climbing two notches from 14th to 12th place.
On the 25th, as the KOSPI index surpassed 6,000 for the first time ever in early trading, the domestic stock index was displayed at the Korea Exchange in Yeouido, Seoul. That day, shares of Samsung Electronics, which exceeded KRW 200,000, and SK Hynix, which exceeded KRW 1,000,000, also opened higher. 2026.2.25 Photo by Kang Jinhyung
The "1 Trillion Dollar Club" includes Nvidia (4.761 trillion dollars), Apple (4.03 trillion dollars), Alphabet (3.786 trillion dollars), Microsoft (2.977 trillion dollars), Amazon (2.261 trillion dollars), TSMC (2.01 trillion dollars), Aramco (1.659 trillion dollars), Meta (1.653 trillion dollars), Broadcom (1.575 trillion dollars), and Tesla (1.566 trillion dollars).
Samsung Electronics still lags behind Tesla, but the gap with Berkshire Hathaway (1.065 trillion dollars), which is immediately above it in the rankings, is not large, raising the possibility of a reshuffle in the rankings if the stock rises further.
However, according to data from the Korea Exchange, Samsung Electronics' market capitalization at the closing price that day was 1,290.4810 trillion won, and the combined market capitalization including Samsung Electronics preferred shares (121.3354 trillion won) came to 1,411.8165 trillion won. Converted at the current won/dollar exchange rate, this is slightly below 1 trillion dollars (approximately 1,428 trillion won). The discrepancy is presumed to stem from differences in calculation standards or in the application of exchange rates.
Meanwhile, SK Hynix, whose share price rose 7.96% that day, had a market capitalization of 783.2599 trillion won. The combined market capitalization of Samsung Electronics, Samsung Electronics preferred shares, and SK Hynix was 2,195.0764 trillion won, accounting for 42.22% of the total market capitalization of the KOSPI market, which stood at 5,198.9999 trillion won.
