On the morning commute of the 27th, dense fog and black ice are expected on roads in Gwangju and the Jeollanam-do region, requiring extra caution for traffic safety. Daytime highs will rise to around 16 degrees Celsius, making it relatively mild.
According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration on the 26th, Gwangju and Jeollanam-do are expected to be mostly clear on the 27th, gradually becoming cloudy starting in the morning.
In particular, from late at night on the 26th until 10 a.m. on the 27th, some areas of Gwangju and Jeollanam-do are forecast to see dense fog with visibility of less than 200 meters. Around bridges such as Cheonsa Bridge on the coast, and near rivers, lakes, and valleys in inland areas, the fog is expected to be even thicker than in surrounding areas. In regions with lower temperatures, fog may freeze on the ground, creating icy roads and widespread black ice, so safe driving is essential, including maintaining a sufficient distance between vehicles and reducing speed.
Morning lows will range from minus 2 to 6 degrees Celsius, and daytime highs will range from 11 to 16 degrees Celsius, with mild weather continuing for the time being, remaining above the seasonal averages.
Strong, biting winds will blow over the sea and along the coast. A strong wind advisory is in effect for Geomundo and Chodo, and a high seas advisory has been issued for the distant offshore waters of the western South Sea. In these waters, through the 26th, very strong winds of 9 to 15 meters per second and high waves of 1.5 to 3.5 meters are expected.
The distant offshore waters of the southern Yellow Sea and the nearshore western South Sea are also forecast to see strong winds and high waves through the 27th, so vessels engaged in navigation or fishing operations are urged to take thorough precautions.
An official from the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration said, "The risk of traffic accidents on the morning commute is high due to dense fog and icy conditions, so drivers must reduce their speed," adding, "Strong winds and high waves are also expected at sea, so please exercise particular caution to prevent safety accidents."
