On February 27, KBCSD held the "20th KBCSD Press Awards" ceremony at the Grand Intercontinental Hotel in Samseong-dong, Seoul, honoring our reporters Hyunju Lee, Sangdon Joo, Jinyoung Jeon, and Byungseon Gong with the Excellence Prize.
"The Path to Just Transition" special report focused on resolving conflicts that may arise during the energy transition process. Our reporting team visited places such as Nottinghamshire in the United Kingdom and Konin in Poland, which have found effective solutions, to highlight issues like job losses and regional decline resulting from the energy transition, as well as the support and cooperation provided by governments and local communities. The team also interviewed Jim Skea, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) under the United Nations, to seek advice on Korea's challenges in the energy transition process.
KBCSD explained that the reason for awarding the prize was that our special report offered a balanced view of the changes in industry, labor, and local communities that can occur during the energy transition. KBCSD also evaluated that the report emphasized that sustainable transition must be achieved together with inclusive development for all of society.
In addition, the grand prize went to Yonhap News Agency's special report "Challenge of the Electrification Era." In the newspaper reporting category, the Excellence Prize was awarded to both The Asia Business Daily and Chosun Ilbo for the report "The Korean Peninsula in Climate Crisis, The Korean Peninsula in Climate Adaptation." In the TV video category, YTN Science's "The Melting Furnace Reboils: Steel Meets AI," CPBC's special documentary "Gourmet of Waste," and EBS's "The CEO Who Spent 3 Trillion, Got Rich with Garbage" were honored. The Achievement Award was given to Seunghun Lee, Editor-in-Chief of DongA Ilbo.
In his opening remarks, KBCSD Chairman Kyungho Lee stated, "The media are a 'public compass' that forms social consensus and suggests directions for sustainable growth," adding, "I hope the media will continue to spread discourse on sustainable development and illuminate a sustainable future for our society."
KBCSD is a council of CEOs from companies leading sustainable development in Korea. Since 2007, KBCSD has been presenting the Press Awards to media reports that have contributed to raising public awareness of sustainable social development and promoting the expansion of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) management among companies.
