Mokpo National University Launches a New Leap Forward as an Integrated University

Entrance Ceremony for 1,776 First-Cohort Freshmen at Dorim and Damyang Campuses

Mokpo National University, a national university, will welcome its first cohort of freshmen since the launch of the integrated university.

The university announced on February 26 that it will hold the "2026 Academic Year Entrance Ceremony" on March 3 at Dorim Campus and Damyang Campus. This entrance ceremony has been prepared as a symbolic event to herald a new leap forward for the integrated university.

The ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Cheonggang Academy Hall in the 70th Anniversary Hall on the Muan Dorim Campus, and will continue at 2:00 p.m. at the Art Hall in the Student Culture and Welfare Center on the Damyang Campus. This year, Mokpo National University plans to admit 1,776 undergraduate students across a total of 44 departments and programs (1,541 at Dorim Campus and 235 at Damyang Campus. In addition to undergraduate freshmen, newly admitted students to the general graduate school, as well as to professional and special graduate schools, will also receive their letters of admission on that day.

In particular, Mokpo National University has been reborn as the first national university in the country to operate associate degree and bachelor’s degree programs simultaneously. By fully introducing a curriculum that links the two programs, the university plans to cultivate convergent talents who can bridge both practical skills and academic theory.

The main ceremony will begin with an academic affairs report, followed by the president’s declaration of admission, the oath by the representative of the freshmen, an award for the top entrant, the screening of a university promotional video, and introductions of key administrators.

At the Damyang Campus, after the ceremony concludes, a commemorative tree-planting event will also be held on the lawn in front of the main building, with President Song and invited guests in attendance, to mark the launch of the integrated university and to express hopes for shared growth with the local community.

Using this entrance ceremony as a starting point, Mokpo National University plans to focus on stabilizing the integrated university system. In addition, it intends to accelerate the innovation of its academic structure in connection with the Glocal University Project, strengthen industry-academia-research collaboration, and enhance its global competitiveness.

President Song Hacheol emphasized, "The 2026 academic year is the first year in which the integrated university system begins in earnest," adding, "We will establish an optimal educational environment and support system so that freshmen can grow into creative, convergent talents."
