First move since sugar and flour prices were cut after price-fixing probe
Launch of a 1,000-won "value-for-money croissant"
Paris Baguette announced on the 26th that, starting March 13, it will cut the prices of 11 items, including bread and cakes, by up to 40%. This is the first time a bakery company has lowered bread and cake prices since sugar and flour companies reduced sugar and flour prices by 3% to 5% following a price-fixing investigation.
Six types of bread will be discounted by between 100 won and 1,000 won based on the recommended retail price for finished products. Red Bean Bread, Soboru Bread, and Choux Cream Bread will each be reduced from 1,600 won to 1,500 won, a decrease of 100 won (6.2%). Whole Grain Oat Bread will go from 4,200 won to 3,990 won, down 210 won (5.0%), and the 3-Piece Castella will be adjusted from 3,500 won to 2,990 won, a reduction of 410 won (14.6%). French Bousse will see the largest cut, dropping from 2,500 won to 1,500 won, down 1,000 won (40%).
The prices of five popular character cakes will also be lowered. The Huntrix Golden Cake will be reduced from 39,000 won to 29,000 won, and the Soda Pop Cake from 33,000 won to 25,000 won, decreases of 10,000 won (25.6%) and 8,000 won (24.2%), respectively. The aim is to significantly lower prices in the high-end cake segment to enhance consumers' sense of value.
In addition, a new "Value-for-Money Croissant" priced at 1,000 won is scheduled to be launched in March. This is seen as a strategy targeting demand from consumers seeking value-for-money products amid high inflation.
A Paris Baguette representative said, "Although we are facing difficulties due to continuous cost increases, we decided to lower prices to ease the burden on consumers and contribute to price stability."
