Launch of "AI Agent" Beta Service
Conversational Search and Personalized Guides
At-a-Glance Comparison of Delivery and Price Information
"Please recommend a suitable humidifier for a home with a baby."
After installing Naver's shopping app, the "Naver Plus Store" app, and typing "humidifier" into the product search box, an "Ask AI" icon appears at the bottom. When the icon was clicked, a chat window opened, and after briefly searching 5 related searches and about 50 related documents, the AI displayed a humidifier selection guide along with recommended products. It provided a detailed guide recommending that users consider hygiene and ease of cleaning, safety features, noise level, and water tank capacity when choosing a humidifier. It also suggested follow-up questions about products, such as the differences between warm-mist and hybrid types, and provided information on products currently sold on Naver.
On February 26, Naver launched a beta service for an "AI Agent" that supports personalized product search and shopping based on user data. The biggest difference from the existing app is that users can search for and receive product recommendations by conversing with the AI. When a user enters a shopping keyword, the AI Agent proposes product characteristics and a shopping exploration guide.
For example, when a user preparing a home party for their child's upcoming birthday types "home party balloons" in the Naver Plus Store app, the agent is activated. The AI Agent presents party theme, installation method, budget, and cost-effectiveness as a selection guide, and also recommends products that fit that guide. It provides options ranging from sets with various colors and decorative accessories to products that are easy to install, along with ratings and reviews.
Users can also compare delivery information and prices for each recommended product at a glance, which shortens the time needed for product exploration and comparative analysis. Follow-up questions such as "Please recommend a tool for inflating home party balloons" are then offered in the form of "chips"; when the user selects one, the agent shows options and related products suited to the user's situation, ranging from "balloon inflating machines" to "portable hand pumps."
Naver is initially providing the shopping AI Agent function mainly for categories such as digital devices, home living, and daily necessities, and plans to rapidly expand applicable categories to beauty and food within the first half of this year. A Naver representative said, "We are currently in beta service and plan to gradually advance the service by accumulating data," adding, "We created the separate Naver Plus app to apply AI functions to shopping, and this service can only be used within the app." To run the AI Agent, Naver has independently developed and secured "Shopping Intelligence," a commerce-specialized large language model (LLM) trained on data such as price, delivery information, product attributes, and user preferences.
Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon said, "By having the Shopping Agent accompany users throughout their entire shopping journey, we will enable them to enjoy a smarter shopping experience," adding, "Focusing on the shopping AI Agent, we will work to create new business and creative environments through an AI convergence ecosystem that organically connects commerce, content, and data."
