Depression Worsened After Sibling's Death
"I Set a Date, Then Postponed It"
Doctor and broadcaster Yeo Esther has revealed that she is considering voluntary euthanasia due to treatment-resistant depression.
On February 26, an episode of the Disney+ show "Fate War 49" was released, featuring Yeo Esther as a guest receiving a consultation from fate reader Lee Sobin.
In the episode, Yeo Esther began talking about her younger sibling who passed away, confessing, "After my sibling died, I went through a very difficult time personally." She spoke calmly at first, but soon broke into tears, saying, "I keep thinking I failed to protect (them)."
She went on to say, "If I receive that treatment, I will lose my memories, and I do not want to live that long. I feel terribly sorry to my family, but I keep picking out a date for my death every day," she confessed.
She added that she had even considered voluntary euthanasia overseas, saying, "I also thought about a time when there would be no more family anniversaries and nothing else to celebrate," and continued, "This time, I felt I should not die before this show goes on air, so I postponed it again to next year."
Yeo Esther also asked the shaman about the remarriage fortune of her husband, doctor Hong Hyegul. The shaman replied, "Let go of that thought. There will be no new love for your husband." Yeo Esther hinted that if her husband had remarriage fortune, she would take it to mean that she would soon be gone.
In response, Lee Sobin advised, "Keep postponing the date every year," and added, "You love your work and have a strong sense of responsibility, so endure by holding on to that." At the end of the show, Yeo Esther wiped away her tears and said, "I will no longer set a date. I will try to endure."
