Yeongcheon City announced that on March 3, starting at 6:30 p.m., it will host an event at the Bohyeonsan Astronomical Science Museum to observe a rare celestial phenomenon in which the Jeongwol Daeboreum full moon coincides with a total lunar eclipse.
This is the first time in 36 years since 1990 that a total lunar eclipse will occur on Jeongwol Daeboreum.
This lunar eclipse will begin with the umbral phase at 6:49 p.m., reach totality when the moon is completely covered at around 8:04 p.m., and is expected to end at around 10:17 p.m.
In particular, because the event will take place in the evening hours when observation is easy, a large turnout from citizens is anticipated.
On the day of the event, in the front yard of the science museum, there will be a lecture on the total lunar eclipse and constellations, and participants will be able to directly observe the reddened "blood moon" through astronomical telescopes installed outdoors.
For citizens who cannot come to the site, the event will also be streamed live in 4K high definition on the "Bohyeonsan Starlight Festival" YouTube channel.
The event is free and open to everyone, and participants are advised to bring warm clothing, mats, and any personal observation equipment.
However, the event may be canceled depending on weather conditions, and the final decision will be announced at 2:00 p.m. on March 2 on the Bohyeonsan Astronomical Science Museum website.
