On the 26th, Lee Junghyun, chair of the Nomination Management Committee of the People Power Party, said, "Before the nomination screening, before the official announcement, making a voluntary decision to open the way for new talent and a new era is the truest form of taking the greatest responsibility," adding, "The tradition of making sacrifices first when the party is in difficulty will revive our politics."
Posting on his social networking service (SNS) account the same day, Chair Lee stated, "The stronger our party's support is in a given region, the higher citizens' expectations are, and we are inundated with questions about why we are not changing."
Chair Lee continued, "I take very seriously the sentiment from residents in the regions that have formed the base of our party, who are telling us, 'Now we need a new breath of life,'" adding, "What we need now is courage and dedication. This is the most dignified political decision."
He went on to say, "Our party now desperately needs the participation of young people and professionals. A new era begins when a generation equipped with a new sensibility and new capabilities comes to the forefront of politics," and urged, "Please join in making choices that can move the public and decisions that our juniors can respect."
