Kim Jong Un Calls Conciliatory Stance a "Charade"
"We Must Build a Foundation of Respect and Trust"

After North Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong Un criticized our government's conciliatory policy toward the North and dismissed the possibility of inter-Korean dialogue, our government stated its position that it will continue working for peaceful coexistence and prosperity.

A Blue House official said on the 26th, "Our government will continue to work to open up a mutually beneficial future in which the two Koreas coexist peacefully and prosper together." The official added, "To this end, the two Koreas must refrain from hostile and confrontational words and actions, and build a foundation of mutual respect and trust."

The Korean Central News Agency reported that Chairman Kim said there would be "no reason not to get along well" with the United States if Washington recognizes North Korea as a nuclear-armed state and withdraws its hostile policy, stressing that everything depends on the U.S. attitude. In contrast, regarding South Korea, he denounced the Lee Jaemyung administration's conciliatory stance as a "charade" and declared that he would "permanently exclude it from the category of compatriots." The report that day covered the contents of Chairman Kim's "work review report" delivered on the 20th and 21st during the 9th Congress of the Workers' Party.

Chairman Kim stated, "The prospects for DPRK-U.S. relations depend entirely on the attitude of the United States," and added, "Whether it is peaceful coexistence or eternal confrontation, we are prepared for everything, and that choice is not ours to make." He went on to say about South Korea, "There is absolutely nothing to discuss with the Republic of Korea, which is the most hostile entity, and we will permanently exclude South Korea from the category of compatriots."
