4.3 Hundred Million Won Invested in Residential and Non-Residential Renovation
Full Support for Vulnerable Groups, Applications Accepted Until March 10
Yeongdeok County is launching a full-scale support program to remove old slate roofing and improve roofs in order to protect residents' health and create a safe residential environment.
The county stated that, because slate containing asbestos is classified as a Group 1 carcinogen and long-term exposure poses a high risk to health, it will take preemptive action to eliminate risk factors in everyday surroundings at an early stage and to improve the residential environment.
This project will invest a total budget of 438.48 million won and will cover 85 residential buildings, 13 non-residential buildings such as senior and child facilities, warehouses, and livestock sheds, and 11 buildings for roof improvement. Eligible applicants are owners or residents of buildings who wish to dispose of slate and improve their roofs, and beneficiaries will be selected from among the applicants according to priority criteria. The roof improvement project will be carried out in connection with the slate removal project.
The support standard for residential slate disposal is up to 7 million won per building, while for non-residential buildings support is provided for areas up to 200 square meters. Roof improvement is supported up to 5 million won per building.
In particular, the removal of slate from homes of vulnerable groups is fully funded with no self-payment required, and the roof improvement project can receive support of up to 10 million won per building. However, any costs exceeding the support limit or area must be borne by the applicant.
The county explained that, because this year's project budget has decreased compared to last year and the amount of support is therefore limited, there is a high possibility that applications will close early, and it urged active participation from residents who wish to apply.
The application period runs until March 10, 2026, and additional applications will be accepted thereafter until the budget is exhausted. After checking the notices and announcements on the county website, applicants must prepare the required documents and apply in person at the eup or myeon office with jurisdiction over the location of the building.
Kim Singyu, Head of the Environmental Hygiene Division, said, "We will swiftly refurbish old slate roofing to promote the health and safety of our residents and do our best to create a pleasant living environment."
