On the 25th, Matthias Beitl, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Korea, held a signing ceremony with Jeong Changgi, Vice President of the Korea Golf Association, at the Shilla Hotel Seoul to conclude the sponsorship agreement for the Korean Women's Open Golf Championship.
The Korean Women's Open Golf Championship is a national title tournament representing Korean women's professional golf. It began with the inaugural event in 1987 and marks its 40th anniversary this year.
The "40th Mercedes-Benz Korean Women's Open Golf Championship" will be held from June 11 to 14, with the venue to be announced at a later date. Through this sponsorship, the total prize money will be increased to 1.5 billion won, in line with the level of the top tournaments in Korea. The winner will also receive an invitation to compete in the "AIG Women's Open," one of the five major championships on the LPGA Tour, which is sponsored by the Mercedes-Benz headquarters in Germany.
Mercedes-Benz Korea has been carrying out various activities to promote the development of golf culture in Korea. In addition to sponsoring Korean women golfers such as Park Hyunkyung and Kim Minbyeol, the company has hosted domestic tournaments that serve as qualifiers for the "MercedesTrophy," an amateur golf tournament in which around 60,000 customers from around the world participate each year. The German headquarters also serves as an official sponsor of world-class tournaments such as the Masters Tournament and The Open, two of the four major PGA championships, and the AIG Women's Open, one of the five major championships on the LPGA Tour.
CEO Matthias Beitl said, "We are very honored to join forces with the Korean Women's Open Golf Championship, which has a long-standing tradition and high prestige," adding, "We will continue to invest and cooperate in the Korean market, and as Korean golf culture develops, we will further expand opportunities to communicate the value and philosophy of our brand to the public."
