Only Korean Company Selected Among 16 Climate Innovation Solutions Worldwide

Simple Planet, a sustainable solutions company based on alternative protein and food tech, has been selected for the joint partnership program of the global climate philanthropy organization Bezos Earth Fund and the environmental innovation platform The Earthshot Prize.

This program is a growth-acceleration model that first selects 16 solutions from innovative companies in the climate and nature sectors worldwide and supports their global expansion. Among the 16 companies initially selected, Simple Planet is the only company from Korea to make the list.

Over the next three years, the program will invest a total of 4.8 million dollars to support the scaling up of 16 climate and nature innovation solutions each year, for a total of 48 solutions. Based on The Earthshot Prize's global nomination network, it identifies companies with strong potential and scalability and connects them with funding and a global network. The selection process is known to comprehensively consider not only technological maturity, but also climate impact, scalability, and systemic change potential.

Simple Planet has been presenting solutions to transform the current livestock-centered food production structure through cell-based food technology and an alternative protein platform. In particular, because it operates in a technological domain that addresses the structural problem of food systems accounting for a significant share of global greenhouse gas emissions, it is regarded as a field directly linked to climate mitigation strategies.

Industry observers believe that several factors worked together in this selection: the company possesses food system transition technologies directly tied to climate action; it has a platform-based business structure with global scalability; and it holds a strategic position as an Asia-based technology company. It is also seen positively that the company is not merely at a research stage, but operates a business model premised on industrial application and market linkage.

The Bezos Earth Fund is a global climate philanthropy fund established after Amazon founder Jeff Bezos pledged 10 billion dollars to respond to the climate crisis. It has been deploying large-scale capital into science- and data-driven climate technologies and nature restoration projects, playing a symbolic role in the global climate investment ecosystem.

The Earthshot Prize is an environmental innovation platform launched by the UK's Prince William, designed to connect innovators, investors, and policy networks around the world. It is widely regarded as highly influential internationally because it goes beyond simple awards and operates programs that support follow-on growth and global scaling.

With this selection, Simple Planet has been included in a global climate innovation portfolio alongside leading innovative companies in regions such as the United States, Europe, and South America. As the only Korean company on the list, many interpret this as evidence that Korean food tech technologies are being structurally recognized within international climate networks.

Simple Planet CEO Jung Ildoo stated, "Responding to the climate crisis is fundamentally a matter of structural transition that changes the direction of industry," and emphasized, "We will accelerate the pace of transition through large-scale global expansion and strategic collaboration so that Korean technology can establish itself as one of the key pillars in the reorganization of the global food system."

Industry insiders say this case could mark a turning point in which Korea's food tech industry becomes directly connected to global climate capital. They note that it is significant that the industry has moved beyond an infrastructure-centered growth stage and entered a structure in which international networks and capital are combined.
