Governor Kim also introduced a recent case in which long-overdue overtime allowances for firefighters were resolved, and said, "I believe that resolving such issues (overtime allowance settlements) is also part of respecting labor. Through efforts like these, Gyeonggi Province will take the lead, with much greater strength and confidence, in creating workplaces where all forms of labor are respected."

Gyeonggi Province is promoting a variety of policies aimed at building a labor-respecting society, including a pilot 4.5-day workweek program, the Labor Safety Keeper initiative, support for industrial accident insurance premiums for platform workers, and the expansion of rest areas for mobile workers.

Among these, the pilot 4.5-day workweek program was launched last year to improve workers’ work-life balance, create healthy workplaces, strengthen recruitment competitiveness for small and medium-sized enterprises, and alleviate labor shortages. Under this system, companies that reach labor-management agreements can reduce working hours by choosing one of the following options: a 4.5-day workweek, a 35-hour or 36-hour workweek, a biweekly 4-day workweek, or a hybrid model. As of January 1 this year, a total of 99 organizations in the province, including 98 companies and 1 public institution, are participating in the pilot program.
