Jindo-gun in South Jeolla Province was selected as an excellent institution in the "2025 Local Government Innovation Evaluation" organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The Local Government Innovation Evaluation assesses 243 local governments nationwide on three categories: innovation capacity, innovation performance, and autonomous indicators, using 10 detailed indicators. Based on expert panel reviews and a public perception survey, they are classified into three grades: excellent, average, and insufficient.
Jindo-gun received high marks for the head of the institution's innovation leadership, the revitalization of public-private cooperation, and improvements in administrative services using AI and digital technologies.
Since the launch of the 8th popularly elected administration, the county has set five major innovation goals and has been working to improve the overall structure of its administration: industrial innovation for shared prosperity, welfare innovation for the happiness of all, educational innovation for nurturing talent, tourism innovation to attract and retain visitors, and administrative innovation to serve the residents.
In particular, by operating the "Future Strategy Committee," the county has identified strategic projects in key areas such as tourism, transportation, energy, and population, and has expanded the foundation for resident participation through the "Visiting Residents' Communication Sarangbang" and the policy research group "Sangsangisang" (Beyond Imagination).
Results from public-private cooperation are also notable. The county introduced "AI Live Commerce" and built a system that sells local agricultural and marine products 24 hours a day, and developed an AI-based real-time responsive sales system, presenting a new model for the distribution of local agricultural and marine specialty products.
Kim Heesu, Governor of Jindo-gun, said, "To realize Jindo as a livable place where residents are the true owners, we will continue to identify and promote innovative policies that enhance practical benefits."
