Jeongeup City announced on the 24th that it will invest a total budget of 2.7 billion won this year to strengthen the safety of aging reservoirs and promote water source development projects to secure a stable supply of agricultural water.
First, to protect the lives and property of citizens, the city plans to invest 2.3 billion won in reservoir safety management and facility maintenance to carry out repair and reinforcement work on seven aging reservoirs, including Wauje in Chilbo-myeon.
Going beyond simple facility repairs, the city intends to strengthen regular management systems, including reservoir monitoring activities and weed removal, and at the same time conduct professional safety inspections and detailed safety diagnoses, with the aim of eliminating disaster risks in advance that may arise from facility aging.
In addition, to resolve recurring drought caused by abnormal weather, a 450 million won water resource development project is being carried out at a rapid pace.
Through dredging work at seven reservoirs, which is the core project, the city plans to secure storage capacity and enhance its ability to respond during dry seasons. In areas where surface water is insufficient, six medium-sized wells will be installed to secure stable water supply sources, which is expected to fundamentally alleviate farmers' concerns about drought.
Jeongeup City expects that this maintenance of irrigation facilities will eliminate disaster risk factors and establish an efficient water supply system, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of local agriculture. In particular, the city plans to increase the effectiveness of the project through thorough on-site inspections and swift project implementation.
Mayor Lee Haksoo of Jeongeup City said, "Thorough management of agricultural infrastructure is the starting point of a bountiful harvest and the foundation of citizen safety," adding, "We will ensure meticulous on-site management so that the project can proceed without a hitch through prompt construction orders, and we will create a safe farming environment that enables the production of high-quality agricultural products."
